UK: Choosing the courier (Royal Mail or DPD) when placing an order for a patient

Written by Shane Murphy

Patients normally choose their delivery option themselves in the patient portal or app, where all of the clinic's configured courier options are offered (for example Royal Mail Next Day and DPD Next Day).

When your team places an order on the patient's behalf — for example when taking payment over the telephone — pharmacy portal users can now select the courier as part of placing the order.

  • Sign in to the pharmacy portal and start the order for the patient as usual.

  • On the place-order screen, choose the delivery option you want (Royal Mail or DPD) before confirming the order.

  • Confirm and take payment as normal.

Points worth knowing:

  • If no choice is made, the order uses the patient's saved delivery preference where one exists; otherwise it falls back to the first delivery option configured for the clinic.

  • Courier options can carry restrictions — for example DPD Next Day requires someone to be in to give the driver a PIN, cannot be diverted, and is not available in Northern Ireland. Royal Mail Next Day is signed for and can be diverted to a Post Office.

  • Dispatch labels are printed for whichever carrier the order uses, from the order itself.

If the delivery option you need isn't listed for your clinic, contact [email protected].
